Shoulder pain is most common in side sleepers — the shoulder bears significant weight and needs deep pressure relief. Too-firm mattresses pinch the shoulder; too-soft ones let it sink and misalign the neck. Here are our top picks for shoulder pain.

1. Helix Moonlight
Helix’s softest standard model — designed specifically for petite side sleepers with shoulder issues.
2. Layla (Soft Side)
Copper-infused foam plus flippable softness. Excellent shoulder pressure relief at under $900.
3. Tempur-Adapt Soft
Deep memory foam hug — unmatched for severe shoulder pressure relief.
4. Nectar Classic
Memory foam hug cradles the shoulder. Long trial in case it doesn’t work.
5. Saatva Plush Soft
For hot-sleeping side sleepers — gives shoulder pressure relief while sleeping cool.
Why mattresses cause shoulder pain
The shoulder is wider than the waist when side sleeping. A too-firm mattress doesn’t let it sink, creating pressure. A too-soft mattress lets it sink too deep, misaligning the neck.
